Besides being a communications expert and creative force, Mike Kirner's background is quite diverse. Not unlike a model on a catwalk, his career has taken many twists and turns. He has also held senior positions both as a General Manager, Marketing Director and Regional Manager.
Most recently, he worked as a consultant for Pacific Retail Capital Partners and helped create, manage and promote Reggae Genealogy, an outdoor concert and homage to the colorful and splendid history of Reggae Music. The event drew over 2,000 visitors which included the entire Bob Marley family, including Ziggy and Cedella Marley. + Check it out here.
Construction Experience
As a young college student, Mike worked three years in the construction industry. He was an apprentice carpenter and assisted on building roofs, concrete pouring, drywall installation, maintenance supervision and various other tasks.
REITS
During his career, he's worked either full time or as a contractor for major REITS such as SIMON, Macerich, Codding Enterprises and others.
As both a General Manager and Marketing Director, Mike has spearheaded many major outdoor events and festivals as an Executive Director and presided over Las Olas Boulevard, an upscale shopping destination in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Some of the centers and assets Mike managed generated over $1,000 psf in sales and produced gross annual sales surpassing $130,000,000 and comprising close to 1 Million in GLA. In other words, major retail assets.
Several of the properties Mike oversaw were also international tourist destinations. He was tasked with organizing local and international tour groups, FAM tours, social media engagement, bus tour coordination, brochure distribution and hospitality outreach.

As the Assistant General Manager/Key Holder for the Portofino Apartments in Sausalito, Mike wore many hats simultaneously.

Below were some of the tasks Mike delivered for BLVD Residential:
- Acted as lead communications coordinator for a luxury residential community, producing branded content and resident engagement newsletters via MailChimp.
- Delivered high-touch customer service to residents, managing inquiries and ensuring a positive experience, aligning with luxury brand standards.
- Oversaw vendor relationships and capital improvement projects, demonstrating organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Coordinated all assignments with maintenance, housekeeping, valet and security.
- Regularly attended Chamber of Commerce meetings and enhanced involvement in community events and programs to increase visibility and recruit new talent and new, qualified tenants.
- Assisted in property maintenance and cleanup when necessary. Hired contractors, plumbers, electricians as necessary.
Cultural Tourism
Since he has worked in both California and Florida, he has worked extensively on creating effective Cultural Tourism marketing plans, which include specific goals, strategies and tactics to reach visitors who enjoy cultural events, shopping and experiences.
As a member of the local Chamber of Commerce, Mike promoted the brand via tourism and business contacts and spearheaded all sponsorship and traffic building initiatives.
FUN FACT: Mike was once walking through Westfield San Francisco Centre, shortly after Tory Burch had opened its doors.

There was virtually nobody in the store except for three people: A large, sullen security guard, a thin, Millennial retail clerk who ignored me and one very familiar and smiling person sitting on a gorgeous, velour couch. Guess who it was? Tory Burch herself. Seriously funny and seriously true.
Throughout his career, Mike has also consulted smaller retailers on creating an online presence, social media, as well as best practices for brand building, SEO and SEM.
Among some of the retail industry veterans Mike worked with some years ago are GGP's legendary industry leaders Scott Creel and John Petersen. GGP was recently purchased by Brookfield.
Macerich
During Mike's Macerich days, he also had the pleasure of working with Randy Koss (Today Sacramento Kings' Senior VP), Terry Gibbons (Today Sprouts Senior VP), Mark Strain, Jim Ross, Jerry Anderson, Henry Lichtman, Peter Galli, Mike Johnson and Bruce Johnston.
