Mock Interview with CEO of Inkitt

🚀 "MockedUP" Turns the Job Hunt Into a Stage — Creative Marketer Debuts AI-Powered CEO Dialogues That Redefine the Modern Resume

Instead of cover letters and buzzword-stuffed resumes, Kirner’s MockedUP™ entries showcase deeply researched, AI-assisted dialogues that demonstrate how he’d align with the company’s leadership, mission, and momentum — before ever walking through the door. Below is a Q & A between Kirner and the CEO of Inkitt, a man who spent much of his life in Berlin, Germany. Kirner also spent ten years living in Frankfurt, Germany.

This post was read by approximately 130 people, even though it was not promoted on social media. It was only used in a cover letter for a PR job at Inkitt. The next day, Kirner noticed that 25 viewers came  from Germany.

1. Frage (German):

EN: Mr. Kirner, what excites you most about Inkitt’s mission to become the Disney of the 21st century?

Antwort:

EN:
I’m fascinated by how Inkitt blends technology with emotion. As someone who lives and breathes storytelling, the idea of uncovering hidden stories that traditional publishers would overlook—and turning them into hits using AI—is thrilling.

2. Question (English):
How do you come up with PR ideas quickly, especially when there’s no obvious news angle?

Answer:
I reverse-engineer the story. I look at ordinary moments—an author signing, an office dog, a UX update—and ask, “What emotion lives here?” From there, I build a narrative. My process is like improv: say “yes, and...” and suddenly you have something worth pitching.

3. Frage (German):
EN: How would you handle negative press or an unexpected PR crisis?

Antwort:
Transparenz ist mein erster Reflex. Keine Floskeln.

EN:
Transparency is my first instinct. No jargon. I analyze the facts, align internally, and then craft a human, clear response—ideally proactive. Often, the key is to listen before speaking. Never panic; steady as she goes!

4. Question (English):
What makes you different from younger candidates or digital-native PR managers?

Answer:
Speed and instinct. I’ve seen enough patterns to know what will stick, and I still move faster than most. I’ve also developed the muscle to generate fresh angles on-demand—while understanding the long game of brand voice, trust, and timing.

5. Frage (German):
Welche Medienkontakte bringen Sie mit? In welchen Bereichen sind Sie besonders gut vernetzt?
EN: What media relationships do you bring, and in which sectors are you strongest?

Antwort:

EN:
I have contacts across tech, startups, real estate, and lifestyle—both in major outlets like ForbesBusiness InsiderWSJ, and in niche verticals. I know many U.S.-based journalists personally and understand what kinds of stories get traction. It’s important, however, to remember not at stories will be interesting to the press.

6. Question (English):
How would you position a new Inkitt author who has no public profile yet?

Answer:
I'd build a “zero-to-hero” story arc. Everyone loves a discovery. I’d use behind-the-scenes content, personal struggles, early fan reviews, and TikTok/IG snippets to build the myth before the book even hits charts. If they have no profile, even better—tabula rasa. One tech broker began by writing restaurant reviews - I loved that concept!

7. Frage (German):
EN: How important is data analysis in PR for you?

Antwort:
Sehr wichtig.

EN:
Very important. Data reveals where the emotion lives. I use engagement rates, reading time, heatmaps, and click paths to understand what’s working—and then double down there.

8. Question (English):
What’s your approach to media training or prepping a founder or author for press?

Answer:
I prep like a boxing coach. I identify their “hook,” develop a simple message matrix, then simulate tough questions so they’re ready. I remind them it’s a conversation, not a TED Talk. Authenticity always wins. I’m also big on background imagery and art direction.

9. Frage (German):
EN: What makes a great story in your opinion?

Antwort:
Konflikt. Entwicklung. Emotion.

EN:
Conflict. Growth. Emotion. And ideally, a surprise. A great story gives the reader the feeling of discovery—not that they’re being sold something.

10. Question (English):
Inkitt’s culture is intense, fast-paced, and deeply ambitious. How do you thrive in that environment?

Answer:
I love it. I’ve done the corporate agency circuit—it’s too slow. I think faster when I have adrenaline, when the stakes are high, and when I can go all-in. At Inkitt, I’d be surrounded by builders, not bystanders—and that’s my oxygen.

11. Frage (German):

Question (English):
“I noticed you use Blogspot.com for a lot of your content portals. Why is that?”

Answer (English):
I realize there are far more modern platforms out there. The truth is, I teach both teenagers as young as 17 and adults over 60 to use and manage content portals—and Blogspot is just easier for them to pick up.

They get it faster than the more complex platforms. Personally, I much prefer WordPress—but for training and mentoring, Blogspot works beautifully. That’s why I stick with it.

Bitte!
