Thought Leaders & National Headlines
Throughout his career, Mike Kirner has coached thought leaders in CRE, tech, hospitality, residential real estate, retail and other sectors.
There are several ways to approach building your personal thought leader brand online. It sometimes begins with a press release, or a news story pitch; it can also be a video or an interview.
Some thought leaders enjoy writing stories for content platforms and blogs. It all depends on what you feel comfortable with and how much time do you wish to devote to improving and augmenting your online credibility and reputation.
Mike's articles, bylines, killer social memes, quotes and thought leadership stories have appeared in Bloomberg, Forbes, WSJ, NY Times, Miami Herald, SF Chronicle, The Registry, CONNECT MEDIA, bisnow, Business Insider, Business Journal, INC Magazine, Washington Post and many others.
The first example below shows social memes Kirner created for tech innovator Rick Peltz. These memes help to gradually build an online brand, show confidence, consistency and promote each thought leader in a positive and enduring manner.
Tech CEO Rick Peltz
FOUNDRY
An Ai Friendly CRM for the CRE Industry
Rick Peltz, a 20-year Marcus & Millichap CTO had a dream to build the world's fastest, most intuitive CRM tech platform for the real estate industry.
FOUNDRY is a new tech brand created with the mighty CRE broker in mind and it helps brokers to close deals, keep track of their pipeline and basically makes a broker's life much easier.
Peltz hired Mike Kirner to drive his PR and establish a national social presence.
Countless top publications, including The Street, Globe Street, Business Insider, CONNECT MEDIA, and Associated Press have recently covered FOUNDRY.
According to Peltz, "Kirner's press releases and social media efforts generated more website visits in two weeks than FOUNDRY had received in two years."
Social Memes
Mike was the lead regional writer, editor and main media relations contact for the scripts and stories provided herein. He has collaborated with a plethora of national, trade and local publications on numerous projects.
Of course, some of the large-scale publicity efforts featured below were also part of a corporate and regional team; all working together to generate positive publicity for our thought leaders and our brand!
Coaching Thought Leaders
Below are four specific examples of industry thought leaders that Mike coached, nurtured and helped to put on the public relations map.
They include two CRE brokers, a specialist in China Direct Investment, a renowned head of research for Cushman and the CEO of an up-and-coming CRE tech brand known as FOUNDRY.
All copy text, editing, follow up, news interviews and stories were either written entirely by Mike or he was the chief editor.
Between 2014 and 2019, while working for global brand Cushman & Wakefield NorCal, Mike Kirner and his team regularly presented various data and research driven articles and reports to numerous national publications including Forbes, The Registry, Business Insider, Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal.
He was the personal thought leadership and branding coach for the head of China Direct Investment on the West Coast.
During this time, Xinyi McKinny appeared in Forbes, The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg numerous times.
During this time, Xinyi McKinny appeared in Forbes, The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg numerous times.
Since China Direct Investment was a major theme of the day, Kirner helped Ms. Xinyi McKinny to significantly increase her online visibility and helped to introduce her as a major regional thought leader. Kirner also coached and advised Xinyi in nurturing her social media and internal brand.
She eventually appeared in numerous publications, including the Wall Street Journal, The Registry, Globe Street, Connect Media and a plethora of others.
Before moving to Stanford Health, Xinyi was spearheading China Foreign Investments and had many brilliant ideas and an impressive educational pedigree. However, writing in English was not her specialty. She once self-deprecatingly admitted that sometimes she wrote in "Chinglish." The truth is, she is a very educated communicator in two languages and I only needed to make minor adjustments to her original text.
Xinyi, whose office was directly next to Kirner's, is a delightful and engaging person and speaks English and Mandarin fluently. She has an advanced degree in architecture and graduated from Berkeley.
According to Kirner: " Xinyi also has a dynamite golf swing!"
Mike Kirner was Xinyi's ghostwriter, social coach, editor and press relations contact for two years.

Robert Sammons
Regional Research Director
Cushman & Wakefield
Tech Cities
As the main editor for the San Francisco & NorCal offices, Mike Kirner worked on copy for speakers, press interviews and spearheaded all NorCal publicity. Our principal thought leader at Cushman was Robert Sammons, who led all research for the West Coast. He is still active in this capacity and is among the most sought-after voices in the national CRE niche.
Sammons and Kirner worked in the same office for nearly four years. He's an absolute professional, as well as a great guy! Four thumbs up for Robert Sammons, Kirner says.
He's the kind of team player that all public relations peeps want on their side.
Sammons is not afraid of the camera, he takes initiative, he follows up and follows through...and he's always cool as any cool CRE cat in the biz could possibly be.
At Cushman, Kirner also helped out the Capital Markets and Multi Family teams on many occasions. Just ask Seth and Zach Siegel, Multi Family King Jason Paar, Retail Superstar Kazuko Morgan, Adam "Laser" Lasoff, George Eckard and many other top producing brokers.
Tech Cities had numerous moving parts; it was a massive, collaborative national effort, where many writers, PR executives, speakers, videographers and research experts pitched in to create a firestorm of free publicity across the nation and beyond. Tech Cities was a global public relations hit!
Business Insider
Mike served as the ghostwriter and editor for Eli Ceryak in this and other thought leadership articles.
Before founding Bridgeview Commercial, a new CRE company, Eli Ceryak was a twenty-year Cushman & Wakefield veteran tech broker.
This polished and erudite Harvard-educated real estate thought leader was and is a very good writer and after editing his article, Mike posted it on the company blog.
The Business Insider editor contacted Kirner and asked if he could republish the entire article on his national platform. BOOM!
